The very stylized companion canvas to the recent Phoebus Apollo-Manjushri Pose: DIONYSUS - not Bacchus, but Dionysus the twice born, snake wearing, bull-horned god of fertility and mystic communion, the flip side of Apollo with other symbolic items: seated in the Lotus position on the Buddhist Purple Lotus of Mysticism new, young Plumed Serpent rising out of a small Grail cup (or it might just be a pudding cup, who knows!) Discuss. Oil on canvas
Absolutely wonderful! A brilliant depiction of Dionysus! And nice job on seperating him from Bacchus. A great tip of the hat to the later develpoment of the Dionysusian Mysteries. Keep up the wonderful mondalas for all us Mystics out here
Thanks. I can credit two books with influencing my depictions Eleusis by Kerenyi and Fate, Love and Ecstasy by Sanford. They really opened my eyes about Dionysus and enabled me to differentiate him from the lesser Bacchus.
